The Swedish Brachyspira, Leptospira and Treponema  Group

The bacterial phylum Spirochaetes (trivial name spirochetes) comprises many interesting species, which are of great concern in both human and veterinary medicine. Some of the species cause diseases that can be transmitted from animals to humans (zoonoses). Important genera of the spirochetes are Brachyspira, Leptospira and Treponema and species of these genera can be isolated from both humans and animals. The purpose of this home page is to serve as a source of information for researchers interested in spirochetes. This homepage is administered and updated by the Swedish Brachyspira, Leptospira and Treponema Group, which was founded at a meeting in Uppsala on August 26, 2004.
