The antibiotic arsenal against swine dysentery is diminishing, due to withdrawal of drugs authorised for use in pigs, and reduced susceptibility among B. hyodysenteriae isolates. To date in Sweden, tylosin, acetylisovaleryltylosin and the pleuromutilins tiamulin and valnemulin are the only antimicrobial agents that are licensed for treatment of swine dysentery and also formulated for in feed or water medication.
